Beda’a Introduces A Second Edition To The Eclipse Watch

When you see it.

Almost a year ago, Beda’a launched onto the scene with Eclipse, its flagship timepiece that showcased a minimalist case and dial, both centered around a circular aesthetic. Its unique dial design opted for a covered dial, displaying time through a fan-shaped aperture at 12 o’clock, through which a rotating disc displays the hour, while the minutes were displayed through a periphery window. According to the brand, all 200 pieces sold out in just three hours.

A few months later in August, the Angles followed, a watch that doubled down on their design philosophy. As Revolution Australia Editor-in-Chief, Felix Scholz described, “This clearly isn’t anyone’s freshman release. There’s confidence in the proportions and the execution of the finish. It’s a watch that knows what it is — a design object first and foremost — and everything has gone into making that design as accomplished as possible.” It’s also important to note how distinct this timepiece is from the Eclipse, he noted. While both watches share a strong design ethos, the Eclipse focused on innovative time displays, whereas this model prioritized form and architectural beauty.

Introducing Beda’a Eclipse II

Now that we’ve seen what Beda’a has done, the Eclipse watch makes a return in a second edition. The time-only display separates the main hours and minutes from the running seconds, on two separate discs within a 37mm stainless steel case. Against averturine glass, digital hours take residence at 12 o’clock, while the minutes, demarcated into 12 5-minute markers, are gestured by a single, bold minute hand. The running seconds at 6 o’clock adopts a different design, with a spear-shaped point gliding over a circular brushed surface.

Each rotor “blade” is engraved at its center with Beda’a’s stylized “B”

The watch is equipped with a self-winding caliber they’ve christened BMJ-01, a movement Beda’a developed together with Dubois Depraz. A glimpse of this can be seen through the exhibition caseback, which shows off an openworked rotor. Eight three-dimensional blades are satin-finished in a radiant motif, with each one engraved at its center with Beda’a’s stylized “B”. Each polished emblem set against a laser-sandblasted background, echoing the refined alternations seen on the steel case.

Framing these circular discs on either side are striped motifs in cream, which alternate between polished and satin-finished surfaces. Interestingly, the crown is positioned at 6 o’clock on the case.

For a time-only model at 37mm, its accompanying statement lugs add surprising visual weight — a feature that’s in fact a deliberate architectural choice. Yet the watch presents a design that demands more than a casual glance. Upon closer inspection, the “winged” design element is a subtle representation of a lunar phase. Is it clever design or beautifully overthought? Perhaps it’s both. At its price point, the Eclipse II shows up where simple timekeeping becomes an exercise in aesthetic appreciation.
